painting business is another alternative

Anna Herbst
: And a good alternative at that. It could also be "the painters", i.e. the commercial painting business.

painters and decorators
Based on the discussion, I have amended my answer. Although 'målerierna' can mean 'the paintings', it is not suitable in the context as Anna rightly pointed out. (Swedish examples of this see http://gupea.ub.gu.se/bitstream/2077/15648/2/gupea_2077_1564... among others)
In the UK we tend to use the term/collocation "painters and decorators" for commercial painting (the yellow pages evidences a good number http://www.yell.com/s/painters and decorators-uk.html).
So from this I deduce that Susanne's sentence refers to better profits for painters and decorators by using a time saving painting technique.

Example sentence:
A new painting technique that affords better profits for painters and decorators.
Discussion
I suggest that we need to 'start over again' on this question
I think that it is the second one but I'd like more context and confirmation
