Interesting People Nov 2, 2010

Yes. Met two Heads of State, John Malkowich, Pierre Cardin, Patrick Vajsman, Jesse Jackson, David Copperfield, and most recently, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.
It has been an interesting ride.

Albert Sabin, Gro Harlem Brundtland Nov 2, 2010

I guess that dates me. Sabin was at a WHO/PAHO conference on vaccines where I was translating and working as an editor.

I also had a really nice conversation with Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, first woman prime minister of Norway, at a cocktail party during a conference at which I was translating. I introduced myself because I am half-Norwegian and she gave me her undivided attention, ignoring the men who were hovering around her to get a word in edgewise.

As a conference translator and precis-writer I met many ambassadors and cabinet ministers.

I had quite a lot of interpreting work for a friend who was a journalist at a music magazine or for TV programme (working on subtitles) in Japan, so I had the great fortune of meeting some really great musicians. Anyone from Hall & Oates, David Coverdale, John Deacon of Queen, Kiss, Aerosmith, David Lee Roth, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi - a lot of people to name. They were all very professional & always polite which made the job quite fun.
