Ok, so the booking is for 1 pm, at the North Pole, in the VIP room (I think it sounds a lot fancier than it actually is)
The North Pole Bar and Restaurant (http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/info_pubbar_2591.html )
See you there!!! I'll be in the area before 1, just for a spot of shopping, so give me a call if you're lost or bored (I'll email my mobile number soon). That goes for everyone :)
How about the Trafalgar? We could have a whitebait dinner like Dickens and the House of Lords used to there! Apparently it is even in one of Dickens' books.
Would be great to see you guys. Didn't make Edinburgh (pity really!) but London's got to be possible. Hope it's not too noisy at the North Pole, so we can talk?
Sorry, I won't be able to make that one either (on my way to France that day :-) Hopefully I'll see you in the new year! In the meantime, have a fun powwow! Flo
I'm taking votes(a very democratic process, following my dictatorial choice of location). It would be realy nice if everyone could state a preference for one of the places Just post a note on the discussion thread with the name of your preferred venue.
With a bit of luck we'll have some nice weather and we can take a stroll around the market. Whaddya all say? ▲ Collapse

North Pole
Nov 23, 2006
Considering the crowds anywhere in Greenwich on one of the last Sats before C'mas, I prefer the North Pole which is slightly out of the fray...

I do understand your concern, but ist't going to be like that anywhere in London one Saturday before X-mas? If you have a good alternative, why don't you suggest it? To be honest here, it was my idea (which I suggested to Alina) to meet in Greewich, because I just love this area. However, it is still early and we can agree on another venue!

Good alternative

I did in a way. Greenwich is great and so is the North Pole which is in Greenwich, but not bang in the centre.

I visited many pubs in Greenwich on various occasions, but unfortunately forgot their names. So I'll be a sheep and go with the majority vote

Greenwich is great
Nov 25, 2006
And Arianna was a star for suggesting it.
To be honest, I'm not too concerned about the crowds: we went to Camden and Covent Garden before - both pretty busy places regardless of the season. Needess to say, everything was fine. I'm pretty happy to go with any of the places I listed. Keep providing feedback I'm quite happy to make a choice myself, but would like everyone - or the vast majority ... See more

I don't know Greenwich area (this will be my first time, as usual). We have had quite a good luck with the previous places, if Arianna knows the place I trust her choice. Hopefully there would be a nice corner somewhere for a nice chat.

Same here

I don't know Greenwich well, so "I will follow you - follow you wherever you may go".
Maybe I even manage to combine the meeting with some Christmas shopping in the morning (still haven't started yet, and - knowing me - by the 16th I should be pretty desperate for good ideas and presents).

The North Pole?
Nov 27, 2006
Hi all. Shall we say the North Pole? I quite like the place, it would fit in quite well with any last minute shopping any of us might have to do, as well (Thomas, you are not alone there:)
So, unless we have some strong objections within the next three days, I'll try to reserve something there.
By the way, it would be really helpful if you could confirm your attendance as soon as you know one way or another. Pleeease.... See more

Hi Everyone!
I'm a bit worried about the pub being busy on that particular day. Is anyone giving them a ring to check? If 15 people suddenly descend on them, they might not be too happy about it.
I'm willing to help with the organisation as I've organised Powwows before. So, if you need anything, Alina, just give me a shout, won't you?

What about getting the boat back to central London? I've checked the boat operator's website. The boat runs from the Cutty Sark to Tower Bridge, but there may be other ones as well. There are discounts for groups of over 15 people and also 1/3 discount for TFL travelcard holders. http://www.bateauxlondon.com/cat/cat_p2pprice.htm
It might be a bit chilly, but I'm sure we could just sip hot coffees indoors and enjoy the view. ▲ Collapse

I love boat trips!
Dec 4, 2006
Could be an unforgettable pre Xmas time we could have heading back on a boat. Only thing is that it could be dark by the time we travel back. But if we get our hats and scarves on we could still be outside. I think it even goes as far as Embankment... Alina, what do you think? Any other things we could bring to make it Christmasy?

Boat trip - second thoughts
Dec 4, 2006
Actually, you are right. It'll probably be dark, so maybe it's not such a good idea after all. We can save that one for the next Powwow.
I still think the pub - North Pole - looks like a great idea.
