- also called float charging, means charging a battery at the same rate as it is self-discharging, thus maintaining a full capacity battery. Most rechargeable batteries, particularly nickel-cadmium batteries or nickel metal hydride batteries, have a moderate rate of self-discharge, meaning they gradually lose their charge even if they are not used in a device. One must be careful, however, that if a battery regulator is not employed, the charge rate isn't greater than the level of self-discharge, or overcharging and possible damage or leakage may occur.

- トリクル充電とは、二次電池(バッテリー)の充電方式のうち、微弱な電流を継続的に与えることによって電力を蓄える方式のことである。無停電電源装置(UPS)などに多く採用されている方式である。
トリクル充電は、バッテリーの特性に負荷や影響を与えない程度の微弱な電流によって充電を行っている。急速に充電するタイプの充電方式と比べると、充電に長い時間を要するが、満充電状態になってから充電電流を流し続けても電池に負荷を与えないという利点がある。自然放電が大きいという特性のあるバッテリーを常に満充電状態に保つことが可能になると同時に、過充電によって電池寿命を縮めるといった性質も緩和することができる。
