- Régebben a köznép szórakoztatására szánt, vásári ponyván árult irodalmi alkotások. ÁImoskönyvek, mondák, mesék, betyártörténetek mellett remekművek is kerültek ponyvára (pl.: Petőfi Sándor versei).
Művészileg igénytelen, alacsony színvonalú alkotások, legtöbbször ponyvairodalomregények. Témájuk főleg a bűnüldözés, a kémkedés, valamilyen szentimentális kaland stb. Célja kizárólag a figyelem lekötése izgalmas v. annak szánt cselekménnyel. - Die Trivialliteratur widmet sich in einer vereinfachenden, klischeehaften und oftmals eine „heile Welt” vorspiegelnden Weise Themen wie Liebe, Tod, Abenteuer, Verbrechen, Krieg usw. (Kitsch, Schundliteratur). In Sprache, Verständlichkeit und Emotionalität ist sie so strukturiert, dass sie den Erwartungen eines großen Massenpublikums gerecht wird (indem sie diesem eine schöne Welt mit einer klaren Unterscheidung zwischen Gut und Böse vorstellt). Das wesentliche Merkmal ist in diesem Sinne, dass sie den Erwartungshorizont des Lesers nicht durchbricht. Dadurch kommt es zu einer Bestätigung (Affirmation) bestehender Meinungen, Gesellschaftsbilder usw., während dagegen die Hochliteratur eine Auseinandersetzung mit gängigen Vorstellungen und Denkweisen anstrebt. Deshalb existiert als weiteres Synonym für Trivialliteratur auch der Begriff affirmative Literatur (als Gegensatz zu kritischer Literatur). - Wikipedia by Anke McElligott

- I pulp magazine (o pulp fiction) erano delle economiche riviste di racconti che ebbero molto successo tra il 1920 e il 1950. Spesso si fa riferimento a loro chiamandole semplicemente "pulp".
Il nome "pulp" deriva dalla carta con cui venivano stampate queste riviste, ottenuta dalla polpa dell'albero e quindi di qualità più scadente rispetto a quella ottenuta dal resto del tronco. Oltre ad essere più ruvida e spessa, aveva anche la caratteristica di ingiallire in breve tempo. Anche se molti rispettavano gli scrittori che scrivevano per i pulp, questi giornali sono stati ricordati principalmente per le loro storie sfacciate, violente e qualche volta oscene, e per le loro copertine sexy o raccapriccianti. Le copertine, in particolare, erano famose per i disegni di ragazze seminude, in genere in attesa di essere salvate dall'eroe di turno.
