- A filmbeli analepszis klasszikus formája a flashback (visszatekintés), mely a történet egy múltbeli eseményét általában egy szereplői nézőponthoz kapcsolva idézi fel. - Als Rückblende bezeichnet man bei Film- und TV-Produktionen sowie in der Literatur eine Erzähltechnik. Eine Rückblende nimmt den Zuschauer bzw. Leser mit zu einem Erzählstrang, der zeitlich vor dem vorangegangen Ereignis liegt. Rückblenden werden vor allem verwendet, um eine Geschichte nicht-linear zu erzählen.
Um in Filmproduktionen dem Zuschauer die Rückblende deutlich zu machen, wird diese oft optisch abgesetzt, durch die Verwendung von Schwarzweiß, eine andere Farbgebung, Änderung der Schärfe oder der Belichtung.
