În limba engleză, prin "buzzword" se înţelege un cuvânt sau o expresie foarte la modă. Lumea tehnologiei produce frecvent acest fenomen lingvistic iar scenariul este mereu acelaşi: cuvântul sau expresia este inventată de specialişti, după care este preluată de marketing şi aplicată fără nici o discriminare asupra unei game atât de largi de produse şi tehnologii încât până la urmă nimeni nu mai ştie ce înseamnă de fapt.
Aşa s-a întâmplat în trecut cu "client-server" sau "reengineering" şi la fel se întâmplă astăzi cu "Web 2.0", pentru care Google returnează nu mai puţin de 200 de milioane de rezultate. Din fericire, de curând Tim O'Reilly a publicat un cuprinzător studiu care are darul să readucă termenul în sfera inteligibilului. De fapt, Web 2.0 nu este altceva decât web-ul modern -- o lume în care cuvintele cheie suna cam aşa: Google, blog, wiki, Flickr, Wikipedia, BitTorrent, RSS feed, reţele sociale, open source etc. intraweb - by George C.
