Discussion

Zahar Fialkovsky Nov 14, 2009:
Hm-m-m... Maybe the reason is that I came from another forum where we a) often if not always would suggest and discuss TRANSLATIONS not only WORDS, "for the sake of the art". b) were a little bit more more personal in conversation. In fact I do not actually care what the asker will choose eventually: its nis/her responsibility. I much more care for what I can LEARN from the DISCUSSION. The proposal was not distorted: it is still opportunely initiated/launched/etc. I simply put it in a sentence. Nothing criminal, one would have thought...
As for 2) it was danced with mischief which I seemed to subsequently have proved to be e-e-e...farther from the original that it could have been. That is it. Nothing personal. On the other hand I am still a novice here and may not know all the rules and subtleties of the KudoZ community. I beg a pardon.
Rachel Douglas Nov 14, 2009:
2 Zahar I'd just as soon not discuss editorial adjustments which make a proposal sound less English. The asker has some good suggestions to choose from, including Judith's, and I'm sure he'll figure out which is best for his context, including based on whether the sense is of an entire field, or a research initiative taken by some one group or institution.

As for (2), I have no idea what you're talking about and am not interested in finding out.
Zahar Fialkovsky Nov 14, 2009:
How would you like this:
"It have to/should be acknowledged that cluster-based computing so opportunely started/initiated has(d) (by now) grown vigorously".
Also:
1) we acknowledge = it is a fact (actually these seem to be simply two parts of a single larger construction: we acknowledge the fact that).
2) You did not seem to be so strict about changing the meaning of the original in the case of "задорный огонек" only yesterday :):)
Rachel Douglas Nov 14, 2009:
Overkill Sorry, but I think that reformulation adds causality which is not in the original. It also sticks too such unnecessary verbiage onto the sentence ("the fact is that", "more than", "and continues to do so").
Zahar Fialkovsky Nov 14, 2009:
Rachel Douglas: The fact is that cluster-based computing was so opportunely started/initiated that it has(d) (by now) grown more than vigorously and continues to do so.

the opportunely established [initiated, launched, begun] field of

... that the opportunely established field of ...

Really, I think it would sound better reconfigured and without "field" or any other word to stand for направление:

... that ... , which began to be used at an opportune moment, have ...

But, maybe you need to emphasize the направление - that it's a whole area of study, or field.
Peer comment(s):

Thanks, Zahar. But there's nothing "non-standard" about the word "opportuntely". And it happens to "work" in some constructions where "timely" doesn't sound right.

a timely launch

"направление" здесь избыточно, мне кажется.
