English term

animal-to-human transmission

COVID-19 GBK English to Spanish Science Medical (general)
Definition from Centers for Disease Control:
Animals can sometimes carry harmful agents that can spread to people and cause illness – these are known as zoonotic diseases or zoonoses. Zoonotic diseases are caused by harmful germs like viruses, bacterial, parasites, and fungi. These germs can cause many different types of illnesses in people and animals, ranging from mild to serious illness and even death. Animals can sometimes appear healthy even when they are carrying germs that can make people sick, depending on the zoonotic disease.
Example sentences:
Evaluation of animal-to-human and human-to-human transmission of influenza A (H7N9) virus in China, 2013–15 (Nature)
Animal-to-human transmission of pathogens: Pathogens are often transmitted from animals to humans ‘accidentally’, for example via infected meat or water contaminated with animal faeces. (OpenLearn)
Proximity to different species though wet markets or consumption of wild animals can also facilitate animal to human transmission. Early cases of SARS were associated with contact to caged civet cats, being sold in wet markets; and some cases of Ebola in Central Africa are believed to have been transferred from animal to human hosts when infected gorilla meat was consumed. (United Nations)

Hi Leda, I just added a translation. I'm just getting a little lazy with these straightforward questions, particularly so when asked in this "solemn" format.

Thanks by the way for that little but interesting glossary. From what I read, there seems not to be any arguable terms there.

Saludos. ¡Y mucho ánimo!

Maybe we can, as a group, or some specialized people, have a look at it and find out if there are terms that have changed overtime, I guess there only a few of them.
Leda Roche Apr 15, 2020:
Hi Chema. Why don't you add a translation?
