Arabic term

أقصى

Arabic to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation
كان اللاعب (...) قد أقصي في إقصاءات الصين الأخيرة.

The meaning is "excluded", but I am looking for the exact term used in sports, since I am not big on sports myself. Thanks :)

Nesrin Aug 7, 2008:
Thanks Noha! The other meaning I meant was "kicked out for committing a foul/ breaking a rule", so it's different from the sense of "beaten out" from a competition.

You may be right Noha. I found the word أقصي used both in the sense of "disqualified/ kicked out" and in the sense of "eliminated/ ousted". I guess it should be clear from your context which one it is.

I remembered the word, it's "disqualified".
Thanks.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, Nesrin. I think "ousted", "eliminated" and all that are alternatives used on the figurative side of the language. so, thanks for giving me options :) Have a cool evening."
