Dutch term

grijpt de faculteit aan

Dutch to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Het najaar 2005 grijpt de faculteit aan zich te bezinnen op de bemensing van het systeem.

I'm not sure about the aangrijpen bit. I know that aangrijpen often means to seize/take advantage of, for example, to seize an opportunity, but I'm not sure if it means that here, particularly as there is no object (e.g. opportunity, chance) mentioned. Unless the najaar 2005 is itself the object. Perhaps the faculty is seizing (the opportunitity of) autumn 2005 to think about staffing issues for the system?

Could anyone kindly help me with this sentence please.

This is awful Dutch. "Het najaar 2005" is subject of the verb "grijpt ... aan". Furthermore the word "om" is missing: ...grijpt de faculteit aan [om] zich te...
Better Dutch would be: De faculteit grijpt het najaar aan om zich te bezinnen over
Luuk Arens Oct 13, 2005:
That's it: the faculty is seizing (the opportunitity of) autumn 2005 to think about staffing issues for the system.

the faculty will tackle the issue of ........

one way. het najaar is simply WHEN they are going to do it.

agree Deborah do Carmo : precisely, just in the autumn

agree Harry Borsje : in the spirit of falling leaves a rather ominous opening remark...\\Add: actually they're not going to tackle it yet, but just sit and think on it

agree Elwing : Actually the Dutch sentence does not even sound good :D

to me at least it seems like very heavy German-style writing.
