J'aurais pu multiplier les exemples. Il s'agit bien d'une carrosserie, c'est de la tôle.

: Agree with Daryo!/ In the sense that 'carrosserie' connotes 'bodywork' in English, it does have its place in this context

Would be my first choice; 'habillage' might be possible, but tends rather to suggest some kind of 'trim' or 'cladding'.
I would at all costs avoid 'carter', as that tends to suggest some kind of (possibly removable) cover, rather than being an integral part of the object.

I had originally considered 'carosserie', for the concept, although I have rarely if ever encountered it in this sort of context.
I did wonder about 'boîtier' but to my mind that tends to suggest a more complete, 'one-piece' housing.
I even considered 'carénage', but again, although I have found it used in certain not-too-far-removed contexts, never on a domestic appliance.

'caisson' might be a better bet — certainly, this term is used to refer to the empty 'carcases' used to build kitchen units, though they're not usually made of sheet metal panels. I suppose 'tôlerie' might even be appropriate — at least that does correctly describe what it is.

On the contrary, this is very much my specialist field!
What I did say was that in all my years working in this specific field, I have not encountered your proposed term used in this sort of context.
It's all about the 'idea' behind a term, which is why there is often no one-to-one correspondence between FR and EN in technical terms like these.
