Durch die zusätzlichen Erläuterungen für "to drop in" ergibt sich ein neues Bild. Das würde man im Deutschen als "Bei jemandem hereinschneien" bezeichnen. Dafür finden sich in Langenscheidts Handwörterbuch folgende Übersetzungen: "arriver chez qn à l'improviste, sans prévenir, débarquer chez qn", wobei mir der dritte Vorschlag am besten gefällt. Auch wenn er nicht ganz passen sollte, könnte er doch Anlaß für weitere Überlegungen geben.

A "drop in" is a patient who just walks in off the street and needs an x-ray, for example. It could be someone who was in a car accident and has a broken arm for example and needs an x-ray. In this case the patient could give information about himself to the hospital and the information would be manually entered into the system.
A drop in would be different than an anonymous study because in an anonymous the patient could be unconscious, and unable to give the hospital information. In this case the x-ray would be performed and the information about the patient could be entered later.
