Electrostatic breakdown is a destruction that takes place when strong electric current runs inside the device. This is caused by instant discharges through the I/O pins of the devices when an electrified human body or a material touches the semiconductor device.

: Tut mir leid, aber es geht hier nicht um Betriebsausfall/Betriebsstörung (i. e. Sinn). Die Dinger (ICs) reagieren sehr empfindlich auf elektrostatische Aufladungen und werden bereits nach Überschreiten geringer Spannungsgrenzwerte irreparabel zerstört.
