Wieso sollte dies ein Datum sein? Wie Dr-G-Pless ja sagt, handelt es sich um eine "Classifi" und "cation". Ich habe noch nie etwas medizinisches übersetzt, aber weshalb sollte "1994.21" unbedingt etwas über das Jahr und die Kalenderwoche aussagen? Und weshalb fragt niemand den Kunden?

It seems to me that the numbers are a reference to a certain system or category that is described in 1994.21 (probably an accession number?). If this is an article, are there references cited? Otherwise, the numbers can just be noted in the translation as they appear in the original text.
