Jeżeli drop number to to samo co physical node ID, to wtedy chodzi o numer fizyczny urządzenia w sieci. Ale przy transmisji pakietowej drop number może odnosić się do liczby straconych pakietów. Wszystko zależy od szerszego kontekstu. W tym wypadku raczej chodzi o numer fizyczny urządzenia sieciowego.
