The fourth component is on financial protection and examines the existence of social and financial protection mechanisms and policies that promote risk sharing so that poor and vulnerable populations do not face catastrophic OOP costs because of TB.
It focuses on three discrete areas of financial protection:
(1) Policy providing free TB services, (2) National and social health insurance schemes, and (3) Social protection schemes.
Government-mandated policies for free TB services can lower out-of-pocket medical costs.
However, certain policies may not cover pre-diagnosis expenses, costs at private facilities, and hospitalizations resulting from TB complications.
