In order for a better understanding of the MPRDA to be gained, it is noteworthy to here to give you a summary of the objectives of this law and this is as follows:

· The State sovereignty over mineral and petroleum resources
· The State’s custodianship of the nation’s mineral and petroleum resources
· Equitable access to the nation’s mineral and petroleum resources to all the people of RSA
· Substantially and meaningfully expanding opportunities for HDSAs to enter the mining and petroleum industries and to benefit from this
· Promoting economic growth and mineral and petroleum resource development within the RSA
· Promoting employment and advancing the social and economic welfare of all South Africans
· ***Provide security of tenure in respect of prospecting and mining***
· Ensure that holders of mining rights contribute towards the socio-economic development of their host communities
