IMO juliebarba is right. amenagement et sol fragile are the key words there. note milieu also.
DIANE ROUX (asker) Jun 26, 2006:
chaussons Tony-Dusty- is right. These "chaussons" are no safety shoes as they are supposed to protect the floor surface.
In fact, I did not know whether slippers would be ok in this case.

See website below for a picture of the type of thing (scroll down to foot of page):

Note that there are many other types of 'protective overshoe', but the blanket term seems to be applied to two major groups, the ones intended to protect the wearer, and those intended to protect the floor surface.

You might also need to consider 'slippers', depending on the actual form these take; I had assumed the disposable variety as show in the above ref., but of course they can take other forms too!

There seem to be many terms used for this sort of thing, here's just one US supplier I found referring to the sort of thing you're talking about here:

** 'Safety shoes required' ** would be a better way of saying it

Unescorted access to and work in the Target Building main floor and basement areas will require SNS PPE (hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields) and clothing (long pants, shirts with sleeves)

Effective Monday, December 12, 2005 and continuing until further notice, hard hats, safety glasses with side shields, and safety shoes are required for anyone on the SNS site

disagree Tony M : 'safety shoe' is not the usual translation of 'chausson', and you refs. above do not establish any link between these 2 terms. // Not 'vague', where's the LINK between the FR and EN terms? // LOL!!!

as it's a Milieu industriel the last link is certainly not that vague :) Here's a possible link http://www.vacheandcow.com/ficheprod.asp?Cat=12&Prod=5
disagree TNTraduction (X) : Safety shoes would damage the floor more than they would protect it which seems to be the purpose here

ok
agree nnaemeka Odimegwu : rephrase it as "wearing of safety shoes at all time is a must."
