German term

Zeiger/Zeigeranfang

German to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Software
This is from the source code for the controls of a heat treatment furnace:

Zeiger_letztes_DW : WORD ; //Indicator, Last Data Word
Zeiger_aktuelles_DW : WORD ; //Indicator, Current Data Word
Zeigeranfang_SWS_DB111 : WORD ; //Zeigeranfang Sollwertsatz DB111
Zeiger_akt_Kanalnr_Reg : WORD ; //Zeiger aktuelle Kanalnummer Controller
Zeiger_DW_Aenderung : WORD ; //Zeiger DW der Änderung

I was using indicator for Zeiger, but am not sure; and really am not sure about Zeigeranfang.

Any help very much appreciated.

Beth, I think what you're looking for is a 'pointer'. In programming terms, a pointer is an identifier indicating the location of an item of data. Synonymous to reference or reference address.
