Italian term

tracciato stradale

Italian to English Art/Literary Architecture
Part of an specialised article on architecture.

The phrase reads:

"...apre con la fotografia aerea dell’area (...), ove sullo sfondo del tracciato stradale della prima sezione dell’urbanizzazione..."

Does it refer to a blueprint? Design? If is a drawing it cannot be a picture?

Thank you!

Discussion

James (Jim) Davis Aug 15, 2014:
The surveying term is alignment another one is quite simply route. The tracciato is the line that the road, or railway line follows, which is neither a plan nor a layout. If there are more than one then they are "tracciati".
philgoddard Aug 15, 2014:
It could be "road plan/layout" if there are more than one.
James (Jim) Davis Aug 15, 2014:
I can think of three different translations each would be accurate in the right context. "... apre" what opens? "(..." what goes here) which would tell me were "ove" is. What are we looking at here, a surveyor's plan? An aerial photo? An ordinary photo?
Angela Guisci Aug 15, 2014:
stretch of road.... I agree with Dasein

road

in the absence of more context, this is what I assume it to mean.

agree James (Jim) Davis : Road is one possibility in the "absence of more context" "stretch of road" "tratto di strada" is certainly not the tracciato.
