It is the "svolgimento" that should not "ostare", i.e. be an obstacle to, eseguire attività di ricerca by way of contracts. I agree with Thomas Roberts in reversing the order, but the latter sentence in my view should read "unless this is prevented by [or: is incompatible with] the discharge of their institutional teaching and scientific tasks".

OR that the contractual research activity should not "ostare" (impede, prevent, obstruct) the universities' teaching and scientific tasks. The final meaning would be the same, but the second approach made more sense to me. |
