Rustic/homegrown/grassroots/traditional shindig

grassroots shindig
IMO "atavistic" conflicts with the "rustic" idea.

atavistic hoedown

Hoedown is the first thing that comes to mind when you talk about a somewhat rural party with regional music.
Maybe in England, Ireland or Scotland they might some other variations that could suit this, but for the US, I'm pretty sure this does the trick.

"1. a community dancing party typically featuring folk and square dances accompanied by lively hillbilly tunes played on the fiddle."
Peer comment(s):

agree Muriel Vasconcellos : I love "hoedown"! But maybe just 'old-fashioned'?

I agree it wasn't common, I've never heard that word in English and only once before in Portuguese. But at the same time, both have the exact same dictionary meaning, and since this is a creative work, I decided to stay faithful to the original.
agree Nick Taylor : Agree with Muriel - atavistic sounds a bit awkward in the context.
