Discussion

Alexandra Taggart Apr 29, 2009:
If you added a prefix "на" it would mean "too much", would it?
Alexandra Taggart Apr 29, 2009:
Dimitry is terribly right! I believe there would be more suggestions.
Michael Korovkin Apr 29, 2009:
sounds rather ironic, Dimitry is right Vo, navayali! Context?
Arkadi Burkov Apr 29, 2009:
Согласен с Дмитрием Дайте больше контекста.
DTSM Apr 29, 2009:
В высказывании звучит ирония? Без контекста создается такое впечатление.

directed from the heart

I would need more context to be sure on this but as multitran.ru states that ваять can mean to sculpt or form, I assume this refers to the "sculpting" of film, which could be rendered in English by "direct"
Peer comment(s):

agree Angela Greenfield : created/put together with all one's heart (I think "ваять" in contexts other than sculpture is closer in meaning to "create" than anything else) IMHO

neutral Alexandra Taggart : "their excavation was directed from the heart" - it was scooped from the heart

"moulded with a lavish hand"?

created with passion

Не дословный перевод заявленного вопроса, тем не менее, менее косноязычный, чем "наваяно". И душа - почти как страсть.

passionately concocted

If you want to laugh at the creators."Наваять"="наляпать"=сотворить нечто невообразимое, the preposition "на" says it.

Sorry prefix "на"

In the case if you add a prefix "на" (пона..) to some Russian verbs especially those which express creative actions the verb acquires a sarcastic tone automatically:
стричь - настричь
творить-натворить
танцевать- натанцевать
делать - наделать
рисовать - понарисовать

Probably "sarcastic" is too strong a word here, to say "ironic" would be more appropriate.
