My point is that the term federal subject(s) or subject(s) of the federation is the term used in English and not entity, region, etc. We simply use what the Russians use - subject(s). Seems reasonable - KISS!!

There has always been confusion about what to call Russia's subdivisions. See Note Added above for an excellent explanation, and names that we should all adopt for consistency.
