Audición y Lenguaje

Spanish to English Other Education / Pedagogy
Dear colleagues, this is the text:

La Universidad de XXX otorga a XXX el título de Licenciada en Educación Especial en el Área de Audición y Lenguaje.

This is the translation I propose:
The University of xxx has conferred upon xxx the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Special Education in the Area of Auditory and Language Disabilities.

Do you think "Auditory and Language Disabilities" is a proper translation? Do you have anything better in mind?

Thank you in advance. Luis M.

Discussion

maryel Jun 24, 2005:
Special Education is a sort of "umbrella lable" that includes a number of disabilities. So, dont "add" it to the translation.
Margarita Gonzalez Jun 23, 2005:
Michael Powers (PhD) Jun 23, 2005:
No hay de qu, con mucho gusto.
Non-ProZ.com Jun 23, 2005:
Good to know. I can see there isn't such as risk then. Gracias por la explicacin Mike, muy completa.
Michael Powers (PhD) Jun 23, 2005:
Jobs include special education and/or in a hospital setting for speech disorders. However, they are NOT physicians and specialize only in language, be it speech or audiiology. Audiologists get paid a little more and fit people for hearing aids.
Michael Powers (PhD) Jun 23, 2005:
It is strictly language oriented - phonetics, phonology, anatomoy of the mouth, etc.
Michael Powers (PhD) Jun 23, 2005:
No, Luis, not at all. In the US they offer an M.A. in Speech Phology and/or Speech audiology designed for people that want to test auditory disabilities and/or correct the point and mode of articulation of either deaf, semi-deaf, or other individuals.
Non-ProZ.com Jun 23, 2005:
Hello Mike: Maybe the word "PATHOLOGY" would make someone believe that this degree is medicine related, and that the person receiving it is a physician or health professional. What do you think? Don't you see this as a risk?

I wouldn\'t use \'disabilities\', as the source does not mention them.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "You're right, "disabilities" or "pathology" is not in the source text. Thank you Mike for your insight though."

Gracias, Oso - Mike :) - me parece que "logopecis and poniatrics" es "phoniology" (a propósito incluí la "i" ante la "o") - imagínate - Mike :)
