Spanish term

están tomando el control del front

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
This is from a banking presentation that is full of meaningless fluff and feel-good BusinessSpeak (and the occasional piece of information) to be presented to the big cheeses. I'm not sure what they mean by "front" here.

I suggested front end And it basically means the same as front office.

BillH Thanks, that is very helpful. It may be front-end. And I agree that in most cases neologisms have different meanings than the source language. I think it's somewhat rare to find one that actually means exactly the thing.
Billh Jun 15, 2013:
May be 'front-end' as in this BBVA document.

Yes, I think you have to wait until you have found every example of the use of this word in your document and then apply common sense based on the context. As I said, I am always sceptical when Spaniards adopt English words because half the time they misunderstand them or use them in an inappropriate context.

Second example I have come across another example. It sounds like thet are using to mean something along the lines of the “face” presented to the client via the website interface.

Las capacidades de customización fidelizan a los clientes y aportan insight a la entidad. Las capacidades de customización del un web fidelizan al cliente, creando vínculos emocionales y de cotidianidad. Permiten que el cliente perciba el front como algo propio, adaptado totalmente a sus necesidades y que le facilita su operativa habitual.

Customer loyalty capacities provide the company with insight. The capacity to customise websites promotes customer loyalty, creates emotional bonds and continuity. It allow clients to see the front as something that is theirs, fully adapted to their needs, helping them with everyday transactions.
Billh Jun 14, 2013:
Problem here is that this is another English word which may or may not have the meaning we would expect in English.

I keep thinking of 'footing' in this context. So many Spaniards don their tracksuits and trainers and go 'footing' in the park.......

taking control of the front office

quite how, of course, is another matter.
Banks are split into front, middle, and back offices.

"The standard definition of a front office is all of the departments that interface with the public. As service providers, banks are defined by the effectiveness of their front office operations. A reputation for outstanding customer service can drive sales of financial products and provide a competitive advantage."
Peer comment(s):

Thank you!
agree Andy Watkinson : A nice way of saying that they're "outsourcing" the work to the customer (unpaid, naturally;-)). .
