Spanish term

bajón en área cardíaca

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) history and physical exam
This is from outpatient chart notes that summarize a 26-year old man's symptoms and history:

"... refiere menos ansiedad ... cuando duerme a veces se despierta como que tiene un *bajón en área cardíaca" .... " There are several mentions of anxiety in the history, no exact diagnosis is given in the report.

How would you translate "bajón" here? It doesn't seem to be a clear, specific medical term. I find many translations -- dip, drop, fall, slump, letdown -- but nothing that looks like a definite symptom or sensation.

And I can't quite tell what country the report comes from ... possibly Ecuador.

Thanks for your help.

Hi all, I just didn't feel convinced enough by any of these answers. This is such a subjective, loose description ... I couldn't say for sure that it's any of these. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Proposed translations

sharp drop in heart rate

Here I understand that "bajón" is a sharp drop (disminución brusca) , and I would translate it with "sharp drop in heart rate"....

cardiac / heart / chest plummeting sensation

I believe the term is referring to a sensation felt in the chest like when you are riding on a rollercoaster and all of a sudden you have a sinking sensation in the chest or heart area when the ride drops.

Can Anxiety Cause a SLOWER Heart Rate?
Almost everyone with anxiety has suffered from a rapid heartbeat at some point or another. A fast heart is an extremely common anxiety symptom, and one that – when severe – causes many people to worry about the health of their heart. One of the first steps towards treating anxiety is learning not to overreact to a rapid heartbeat because the stress of overreacting can create a further rapid heartbeat.
What many may not realize is anxiety can cause the heartbeat to slow down. It's not that common, but it is possible, and in some cases the issue may not be a slow heartbeat at all but how you're interpreting it.
