Spanish term

tópico por consulta

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) MEDICAL - GENERAL
The term "TOPICO POR CONSULTA" appears as one item on a medical receipt from a clinic/hospital in Peru. I am unclear as to whether this refers to certain room facilities (possibly treatment room) or refers to the treatment; i.e. topical medication. There is no further context other than other items in the receipt, including: Rotavirus and stool culture lab tests, saline solution, syringes, examination gloves, IV administration set, Tegaderm, Ranitidine, Gravol. I'd be grateful if anyone can offer some clarity on this. Thanks, John.

Many thanks for that Laura - seems good to me.

I did find another document in English afterwards for foreign students going to Peru which explains their private medical clinic is called a tópico.

"MEDICAL EMERGENCY STEPS:
If an accident occurs in USIL facilities, ask for medical attention
at our medical center known as the Tópico)."

I would translate it as "clinic consultation" myself. :)
Douglas Davies (asker) May 9, 2014:
Thanks for the links Laura. I'm still not completely sure whether it refers to the place or the type of treatment.
Laura Messer May 9, 2014:
This definitely sounds like a term specific to Peru as Douglas mentioned. See below job postings seeking an "enfermera de tópico." Sounds like "tópico" refers to an urgent care clinic in these cases.

I immediately thought the same, but it wouldn't be a charged item on the receipt. My instinct is that it is a term specific to Peru.

REASON FOR CONSULTATION? Is it a heading? Is there anything written after "TOPICO POR CONSULTA" Could it refer to the patient's complaint - their reason for seeking treatment?

clinic consultation/consultation at clinic

See discussion entries - a "tópico" in Peru appears to be some kind of private medical clinic/urgent care center. The phrase is a heading on a receipt listing medical services so I would translate as "clinic consultation" or "consultation at clinic."
