Discussion

esing (X) Dec 29, 2009:
Niñez The closest term in this context for Niñez seem to be "Child"
Robert Forstag Dec 28, 2009:
For the reasons I stated... in my answer, I prefer the term that I've offered, but if you feel more comfortable using "women"/"child"/"children", then I would suggest "Police District No. 5: Women and Children Services".
Lydianette Soza (asker) Dec 28, 2009:
Would it be appropriate if ... I translate it as Child and Women Services Division?

Gracias, Claudia. :)
disagree Caminos : It does not equate to the spirit of the legislation (the legal Code for the protection of Women, Children and Adolescents) under which these special police stations/units were created

Woman and Child Police Station

special police station for women and children.
Peer comment(s):

agree Caminos : I would only change it slightly to Women's and Chilren's Police Stations/Units. In Nicaragua, they are intended to be indipendant stations but due to a lack of resources some are units within regular police stations.

Robert,

Por qué no decir: Police Precinct for women and children?
Peer comments on this reference comment:

neutral Robert Forstag : That would be an option, but I think "family" is more succinct and has the added benefit of not sending a negative message about men by leaving them out. In other words, I guess you could say it is "appropriately euphemistic."

disagree Caminos : Robert's proposed term (family) would mean that these stations specialize only in domestic violence crimes, which is incorrect. Euphemisms aside, these stations were created by law to protect vulnerable sections of the population, which do not inlude men
