Help!
Does anybody know how to fix the above error message? The error prevents Studio from analyzing what seems to be a normal Word 2003 file.

Hi Peter,
Just in case you have not done this already press F8 when the file is in the editor. This will run a QA check and possibly identify any tags you might have missed that have prevented the file from saving correctly.
If this isn't the case try opening the source file again for translation using open document and then immediately save it as target. If it saves then pre-translate it from your TM and hopefully all will be well... See more ... reprocess the file.

If it fails then the problem could be with the file itself, or it could be a bug. the workaround would be to keep splitting the file, process each half in Studio, until you found the problem part that caused the issue. If this is the case then it would be worth starting with the footnotes.
If all else fails and you still can't do anything with this please feel free to send me the file, fully translated sdlxliff and the source word file, and I'll happily take a look.
Regards
Paul

I am trying to create a project using the New project-wizard, and when I hit Finish, the wizard starts to convert the file for translation, but quickly finds out it can't convert the file to translatable format.
Do you know how to solve this?

...in case the Word document is damaged:
1. Launch MS Word
2. Go to File > Open
3. Browse to the problematic document and select (don't open!) it
4. Click the small arrow in the Open button in the bottom-right corner of the Open File dialog box
5. Select Open and Repair
6. Resave the document
7. Try to load the repaired document in Studio | |

Hi Peter,
I had a similar problem and had to ask help from SDL support. They gave me the following reply:
"The issue you are currently encountering is caused by the footnotes markers which are not correctly aligned with the reference numbers. As a workaround, you can check all of the references and footnotes in the document and make sure they are all aligned, or you can just save the document as a .docx file in order to be faster."
I chose the faster option - saved the document as a .docx file - and it helped. (Saving the document as an RTF file, which I tried earlier, did not.)
You have probably solved your issue by now, but I hope this helps others. I guess this error message is not very common, as this thread was the only help I found by googling.
Best regards
