Source text - English Bursitis
Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs that act as cushions between tendons and bones at a joint to aid smooth movement. Overuse and repetitive friction can cause a bursa to become inflamed and movement of the associated joint will be painful – a condition known as bursitis. The bursae most susceptible to inflammation in runners are the trochanteric bursa at the hip, the patellar bursae in the knee and the retrocalcanear bursa at the ankle. Poor running technique, biomechanical abnormalities and unsuitable footwear can all cause bursitis. Bursae can also become infected, which can lead to chronic, or long-term, bursitis.
