Source text - English I’d like to share a case involving a man named Bill whom I met while lecturing in Baltimore. He had experienced great difficulties in accommodating his disability. He was so scattered that he had difficulty verbalizing his story. As a child, Bill had always had difficulty sitting still and finishing his work. He had gotten poor grades because he could not read, write, or verbalize well, but had made it through college because he was determined to do so. His job experience had been frustrating because he could neither get organized nor bring projects in on time. This had led to several job changes over a period of eight years. Bill had also suffered numerous problems with fellow employees and bosses.
Bill’s stable relationship with his wife was one of the bright spots in his life. His wife was a grade-school teacher experienced in handling children with AD/HD. It was she who urged him to have his disability diagnosed. He had tried a number of medications including stimulants that had made him nauseated and antidepressants that had left him agitated. Bill was desperate to find natural alternatives to drugs. He and his wife together had identified caffeine and sugar as substances that exacerbated his symptoms, and eliminating these items from Bill’s diet had helped. He had tried various herbal remedies and supplements with limited success. Finally, he got on my 30-Day plan and has made remarkable strides in the past months. Amazingly, he got some relief almost immediately, but it took several weeks before he was able to function normally.
As experts have learned more about the progression of AD/HD into adolescence and adulthood, the extreme importance of managing the symptoms in childhood has emerged. Each child will be different and require multiple approaches to his or her condition. Much more research needs to be done on AD/HD in girls, since this group has been overlooked. Successful treatment of AD/HD in childhood can save the next generation of adolescents from developing more serious problems. It can also save thousands of adults from untold misery in the future.
