Spanish to English: News article for ICEX (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior)
Translation - English Peru recognizes Lidercon’s exclusive rights to vehicle inspection concession in Lima
The Spanish company Lidercon will be the exclusive provider of technical vehicle inspection services in Lima, Peru, according to a contract signed by the company and the city council, declared Peru’s Deputy Minister for Transport, Carlos Puga.
In declarations to RPP radio station the government official explained that all the conditions of the contract between Lima City Council and Lidercon are to be respected. This decision by the Ministry of Transport means that the company can now put behind it the controversy which arose last February when the Mayor of Lima suspended the company’s contract with the capital city of Peru.
Lidercon took the Mayor’s decision to the Arbitration Tribunal of the Chamber of Commerce of Lima, which ruled in favor of the company and ordered the resumption of the technical inspections. However, the city council did not respect the ruling.
Although the company reopened the inspection plants a few days ago, the authorities have refused to recognize the legality of the inspections, which led Lidercon’s Vice President, Raúl Barrios, to press complaints against the Minister for Transport on 21 August for refusing to authorize the technical revisions.
