1 Background
The effective application of knowledge and learning approaches is increasingly important for organisations operating in the development and humanitarian spheres. These approaches amount to a holistic, multidisciplinary set of tools, templates and frameworks which can be applied in a range of different settings.
Our fascination with knowledge and learning has led us far and wide – from working on international policy initiatives such as the Africa Commission, to understanding the operational realities of refugee camps in Southern Africa. These knowledge and learning initiatives arose in response to what are increasingly seen as the basic needs of modern organisations: to identify and map knowledge, to encourage groups to create new knowledge and learn from their experiences, to share knowledge and to store it for the future. While these processes are complex and iterative, the range of tools which can be used to facilitate the processes are simple and most often require nothing more than the desire to try something new, and to just “get on and do it”.

Nuestra fascinación con el aprendizaje y conocimiento nos ha llevado extensamente lejos – de trabajar en iniciativas políticas internacionales tales como la Comisión de África, a entender las realidades operacionales de los campos de refugiados en del Sur de África. THEORY AND PRACTICE COMPARED
INTRODUCTION
There has been renewed interest recently in brands, brought to attention through Nestle’ s takeover bid for Rowntrees and subsequently followed by the debates on how to value brands with a flurry of conferences in the UK.
One might wonder if there is a cyclical interest in this subject, since King (1978) last stirred the hornets nest with his observations about a crisis in branding with stronger distributors brands and weakening manufacturers brands.
In the early and mid 1980’ s interest tended to be focused upon who owned the brands and how brands could succeed in an environment of increased retailer dominance (eg Hurst, 1985).
It became much more widely recognised that retailers had developed branding strategies for their own
brands (Randall, 1985), but there still remained confusion about branding terminology (eg Martell, 1986). With the recent thrust being more concerned with the way brands are valued, we believe that any techniques developed must first clarify how the brand is being interpreted. The purpose of this paper is therefore to review the literature about the different evolving meanings of brands and through a synthesis to identify categorise of brand meanings.

His office had a one hundred-inch screen on the wall, and in front of the screen there was a short desk, just one foot in height. Lee spent much of his day in this room, studying the strategies of his competitors and overseeing multibillion-dollar investment decisions. Beside his desk were hundreds of DVDs and videos, many examining his competitor’s histories and strategies. Every new product made by Samsung and its competitors sat along the walls. Stanley is surprised to discover that despite this the year end accounts for Richard's company has a lower depreciation charge as an expense in the Profit and Loss Account and thus a higher profit and that the machine has a higher book value when compared to the accounts for Stanley's company. When Stanley raises this with his accountant he gets the answer that ‘it is probably because we use a different depreciation method for writing off the cost of the machine but by the time the expected life of both machines comes to an end you will almost certainly find that over this lifetime the total accumulated depreciation charge for both companies is the same and hence profit is the same - all other things being equal of course.’

3. (2) Keg couplers – low profile type
4. (4) White squeeze clamps
5. (2) 4 foot long red hose
6. (1) Cleaning kit
BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE FILLED YOUR TANK WITH GAS
STEP 1 – DO NOT TURN ON GAS YET
Connect the CO2 regulator to tank by screwing regulator nut onto threaded tank valve – HAND TIGHT ONLY – it is not necessary to use a wrench to tighten this nut
STEP 2
Attach one red gas hose to each of the shut off valve outlets on the bottom of the regulator and clamp tight using two of the white squeeze clamps provided.
STEP 3
Attach the other end of each red gas hose to the LARGER of the two hose barbs on the keg coupler and secure with the remaining two white squeeze clamps.
STEP 4
Locate the two clear hoses from the draft arm installed previously. (These should be inside the refrigerator at this point). Attach one clear beer hose to the SMALLER hose barb on each keg coupler being certain to push the hose completely onto the barb. This connection does not require a white squeeze clamp.

From his neck, she suspended an amulet of turquoise and a satchel of Gum Arabic to ward off the evil eye. This would be her secret daily ritual. She would never alter the ceremony until Jacob’s gifts—skirts and dresses and veils—stained with Venus’ spittle and inherited the odor of manure.
Tears swam in the animal’s eyes. Were they for her? She touched her lips to the donkey's, brushed her cheeks against his neck, and swept her scarred fingers over his tongue. "You’re my only friend," she whispered.
Venus nuzzled his ear against her shoulder. His sweeping tongue was a cool balm. The thumping of his heart gave her courage. She pressed her nose against his hide to stop the stink of iron she carried with her. The comforting smell of domestic animals emanated from him. "Would you still love me if I become a wife-whore?"
The donkey's flank shook against her cheek. His ears pointed up. The odors of rain and hay and sweat assailed her. Lightening drenched the stable with violent shades of purple. Heavy boots crushed the hay behind her. She pressed her eyes shut and held the reins tight.

ABSTRACT
PVC is the most common insulation material used for wiring in low-voltage (LV) service. “Low-voltage,” in the context of this paper, is taken to be 120 – 240 VAC. “Wiring” is taken to include not only insulated wires, cables, or cords, but also the appurtenant termination devices, e.g., male plugs or female taps. Well-known factors leading to the ignition of PVC wiring include: (a) manufacturing defects; (b) grossly excessive current; (c) over-insulation, sometimes augmented by overcurrent; (d) localized heating due to strand breakage; (e) localized heating due to mechanical
strand severing by staples or nails; and (f) localized heating due to failed terminations. Other failure modes are known but have received only limited study. These include (i) excessive force and creep; (ii) chemical interaction effects; and (iii) breakdown under voltage surge conditions.
Additional research is needed in these areas. The proximate cause of ignition involved with many of the above mechanisms is arc tracking (arcing across a carbonized path). In turn, it is shown that PVC is especially susceptible to becoming charred, it requiring only approximately 160ºC for the material to become semiconducting during short-term exposure (around 10 h), while longer-term exposure (around 1 month) may cause failures at temperatures as low as 110ºC. Some limited data exist which suggest that standard UL and IEC temperature classifications are unduly optimistic, as applied to PVC. Mains-connected electrical appliances need to be designed to resist 6000 V surge voltages, even though this is not mandated in most of the current UL standards. Data are presented
showing that the IEC 60112 wet-tracking test gives especially misleading results for PVC and should be improved or abrogated. Keywords: arc tracking, dielectric strength, electric cords, electric wires and cables, electrical fires, ignition, PVC, voltage surges.
