Source text - English PBSC harvest
Peripheral blood stem cells were collected following the second or third cycle of ICE therapy in 32 patients, of whom two did not proceed to HDCT because of ICE-refractoriness or relapse prior to transplant, while another went on to receive an allogeneic SCT. Two patients had previously had autologous stem cells collected, and one failed to mobilise sufficient numbers and required a bone marrow harvest. The median time to PBSC harvest was 14 days (range 10-20), while the median CD34+ cell yield was 5.2 x 106 cells/kg (range 2.3 to 27.2 x 106 cells/kg). Four harvested patients required two leukaphereses while the remainder required only one leukapheresis. Notably, 29 of 31 patients (94%) mobilised more than the targeted 2.5 x 106 CD34+ cells/kg. There was no statistically significant difference in the yield of CD34+ cells using G-CSF at a daily dose of 10 |^g/kg versus 5 |J.g/kg, at 8.95 x 106 (n = 24) and 5.1 x 106 (n = 8) CD34+ cells/kg, respectively.
