Source text - English The surrounding countryside offers much to be discovered. A few kilometres away is the Castelo de Bode, a freshwater lake that was created in 1951 following the construction of a major dam upstream. The lake is a summer playground for visitors to Tomar who flock there to bathe in its clear waters and take part in all manner of water sports. There are also plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails and horse riding opportunities in the area to satisfy the most energetic of visitors. It is this contrasting mix of history and nature, of the urban and the rural that make Tomar, Portugal such a compelling city and one that deserves to be on the itinerary of any visitor to the country.
Translation - Portuguese A área rural em redor tem muito por descobrir. A apenas alguns quilómetros de distância situa-se o Castelo de Bode, um lago de água doce que foi criado em 1951, após a construção de uma grande barragem a montante. O lago é um parque de diversões para os visitantes que se juntam em Tomar no Verão: aqui podem banhar-se nas suas águas límpidas e participar nos mais diversos desportos aquáticos. Também, de modo a satisfazer os visitantes mais enérgicos, há vários trilhos de caminhada e de BTT, e muitas oportunidades de andar a cavalo. É esta contrastante mistura de história e natureza, de urbanismo e de ruralidade, que faz de Tomar uma cidade tão irresistível e uma das que merece ser incluída no itinerário de qualquer um que venha visitar Portugal.
