Visible Skin Damage
The absorption of UV radiation by skin chromophores (predominantly of UVB by DNA), and the unrepaired damage to the chromophores, are the main cause of later visible skin damage, particularly sunburn, photoageing and skin cancer. Such damage id inn fact initiated at all levels in the skin, but, beacuse the UVB is largely absorbed high up before it reaches the dermis, most of the immediate damage that we eventually perceive is to the epidermis, although both UVB and UVA do cause deeper damage as well. | Translation - Portuguese

A absorção de radiação UV pelos cromóforos da pele (principalmente de UVB pelo ADN) e a não reparação dos danos causados a esses cromóforos são a principal causa de posteriores danos cutãneaos visíveis na pele, principalmente a queimadura solar, fotoenvelhecimento e cancro de pele. Tais danos iniciam-se a todos oos níveis da pele, mas como os raios UVB são altamente absorvidos , muito antes de atingirem a derme, a maioria dos danos imediatos por nós apercebidos são lesões da epiderme, mas o que de facto acontece é que, tanto os UVB como os VA causam danos bem mais profundos. |
