Source text - English Thirteen deplorable years since the two great kingdoms were at war and the city of Harmonie, the border between both of them, stoically endured the attacks of the enemy. Its double ramparts, its defensive castle and the effectiveness of the guard, had kept the city safe. But as time passed, it became more desirable to the enemy.
Jeanne Archer grew up amongst attacks but was prepared for them. From childhood she stood out in the use of the arch, beginning with an infantile bow and developing her skills with the longbow used by the guard. The hyperbole drawn by her arrows was precise, at short distance it could penetrate an armour and at long distance, it was able to pierce unprotected necks or thighs.
In the last attempt of siege, she had remained awake two days, side by side with her brother, Olivier, enduring the assails of the enemy and with her fingers and forearms stained with blood from the rubbing of the string and the arrows.
For her father, the Duke, it was a source of pride having similar offsprings. Olivier, the firstborn, worthy heir of the dukedom. A young man, honest, strong and a faithful devout of his people and God. Jeanne, with identical virtues, in addition to her beauty and dexterity with the arch and the pole-ax , worthy of praise.
For a few months the siege ceased. It seemed that a truce had been reached between the two kingdoms. News from the capital came to their ears about a Peace Treaty and happiness burst out in the streets of Harmonie. The bells of the Cathedral rang with clamour. Dances and feasts returned, the doors of the ramparts were opened to harvest the fields and store goods.
