In the biology book for this year, you will learn how your body is structured and how it operates, which means that, in this book, you will get to know more about the skin, the skeleton, the muscles, the blood, the brain as well as your five senses, that is, hearing, touch, sight, smell and taste.
You will also learn how your body grows since you are in your mother’s womb until you reach the age of one hundred years and more, and you will learn what happens when you breathe and what happens to the food you eat, and how the latter is distributed all over the body.
In the image on page 4, you can see a girl’s bodyand a boy’s body. As you can notice, there is no difference in the internal body structure between both of them.
Organs and their functions
The body is composed of many parts called organs, such as the heart, the lungs and the brain. They all operate together but in different ways.
If we consider the example of the nervous system, we find that the brain, the spinal cord and the nerves function together.
In the digestive system, as well, we find many organs that cooperate in different ways in order to digest the food that you eat.
In this book, we will learn more about the functions of these organs, and on the top of page 5, in the middle and on the bottom of the same page, we see a blood vessel with red blood cells inside. On the right side of the same page, we see how the heart and blood vessels constitute the circulatory system where blood vessels are distributed all over the body. We see, as well, how the nerves are also distributed all over the body from head to feet.
