Bio
Greetings!
My name is Rossella and I am a native of Italy.
I graduated with the maximum score of 110 summacumlaude at University of Rome “La Sapienza” in both Bachelor's (14/12/2009) and Master's Degree (14/07/2014) in Oriental Studies and Languages.
My rewarding academic experiences and my dedication for foreign languages have deepened my interest in and fuelled my desire to pursue an international career in foreign language education and translation.
I am not new to the educational and translation field: prior to enrolling at university, I attended 'Educational Sciences High School' (Liceo Psico-Socio-Pedagogico) at Ravanusa (Agrigento), whose programs were designed to provide students with a comprehensive in-depth understanding of a wide range of teaching methods and strategies with particular emphasis on psychological and pedagogical aspects.
Last summer I had the pleasure to work side by side with ISIS Education staff at Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh). My position there was Group Leader and I provided language support to international students in order to ease the communication and collaboration between the students and college support staff.
One of the most gratifying experiences of my academic career was being able to run my teaching Internship at CTP IISS "F. Re Capriata" High School (Licata) in the academic year of 2012-2013. Whilst on my internship I spent my time observing the work and teaching and translating strategies of the more experienced teachers and began to assist foreign students myself.
This lead to them gaining a stronger understanding of the Italian language by leading meetings, facilitating discussions and helping them grasp difficult Italian linguistic concepts during lessons. They've been so enthusiastic about my work that this year the CTP's Director decided to assign me a course in a National Operative Programme called “NOI ITALIANI” and whilst in this position I taught young adults and adults (both italian and foreigners) basic / secondary education and literacy).
I held my classes in both English and Italian and as a result of this, I was able to increase my competence in English and develop skills in encouraging student participation through careful organisation of teaching materials, and the planning and implementation of engaging lessons. As a result of this, my students' linguistic capabilities showed significant improvement.
Alongside my university studies, I also have actively sought out opportunities to tutor students of all ages from diverse academic levels in a variety of disciplines (including children and adults with ADHD, deafness and other learning disabilities).
As a foreign language student, I understand people that are in the same position I was not so long ago and I’m confident that this will enable me to increase their level of academic performance.
Throughout my academic career, I have consistently driven myself to meet challenges and achieve goals, and having the opportunity to teach in a real international setting is a type of challenge in which I thrive. Helping people to improve their language skills in the same branch that I have dedicated my whole life to, whilst reinforcing my own knowledge of English, is one of my highest goals.
I trust that my strong motivation and my enthusiasm for this position is evident to you. I have also enclosed my resume for your consideration. I appreciate you taking time to review my credentials and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
