Source text - English China toluene, mixed xylenes prices rise amid TDI test runs, snug supply
Singapore — Asian toluene and isomer-grade mixed xylene prices, as well as their spread with key feedstock naphtha, has increased recently due to snug supply, production issues in China and increased demand from gasoline blending, market sources said this week.
Furthermore, China's Yantai Wanhua has been buying toluene ahead of trial runs slated to commence in November for about one month at their new toluene di-isocyanate plant in Yantai, East China, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.
The new TDI plant has a production capacity of 150,000 mt/year and generally requires 100,000-120,000mt/year of toluene as feedstock, the source added.
Toluene and MX has also been bucking the downward trend in related markets like paraxylene, benzene and naphtha over the last week.
International spot prices on an FOB Korea basis were last assessed on October 23 at $840/mt for toluene, up $25/mt since October 12, while isomer-MX slipped $2/mt over the same period to $919/mt.
Over the same period the MX-naphtha spread widened $27/mt to $259.63/mt, while toluene's spread with naphtha increased $54/mt to $180.63/mt.
For both the toluene and isomer-MX markets, domestic prices shot up since last week as buyers "scrambled to secure feedstocks for blending" a source said Tuesday.
Isomer-mx domestic price was last heard in the market at Yuan 7,800/mt Tuesday, or about $940/mt on an import parity basis, up around $20-$25/mt from the week before.
Toluene domestic prices also rose from Yuan 7,160/mt last Thursday, to Yuan 7,700/mt on Tuesday, or about $926/mt on an import parity basis, up around Yuan 540/mt, or about $65/mt over this period.
Market sources also said Chinese plants have equipment issues that require maintenance and as a result some domestic deliveries have been cancelled recently, exacerbating the supply shortage further.
East China toluene inventories shrunk 6.25% week on week to 22,500 mt on October 19, based on S&P Global Platts data.
Meanwhile, in the benzene market -- downstream of toluene -- supplies remain ample as inventories accumulate amid weak demand, contributing to falling benzene prices over the period, market sources said.
As a result, on October 18, the benzene-toluene spread hit a negative $0.83/mt, with the last observed negative spreads between the two markets dating back to October 12, 2016 at negative $1/mt, Platts data showed.
The benzene-toluene spread was assessed at negative $38.33/mt on October 23, as the benzene price fell to $801.67/mt FOB Korea on October 23, down $28/mt since October 12.

به گزارش منابع مختلف، این هفته در بازارهای آسیا، قیمتهای تولوئن و زایلین مخلوط گرید ایزومر و همچنین فاصله آنها با خوراکِ مهمِ نفتا افزایش چشمگیری داشته است، آن هم به علت اندک بودن عرضه، مشکلات در تولید در کشور چین و نیز افزایش تقاضا در بخش اختلاط بنزین.
علاوهبر این، به گزارش یکی از منابع نزدیک به شرکت چینی Yantai Wanhua، این شرکت پیش از انجام تولید آزمایشی در واحد جدید تولوئن دیایزوسیانات خود در شهر یانتای در شرق چین، که قرار است در ماه نوامبر برای حدوداً یک ماه آغاز شود، مشغول خرید تولوئن بوده است.
منابع ما همچنین خبر دادند این واحد جدید تولوئن دیایزوسیانات ظرفیت تولید 150 هزار تن در سال را دارد و به طور کلی نیازمند 100 تا 120 هزار تن خوراک تولوئن در سال است.

همچنین در همین مدت زمان اختلاف نفتا و زایلین مخلوط 27 دلار بیشتر شد و به 63/259 دلار در هر تن رسید و اختلاف تولوئن با نفتا نیز 54 دلار بالا رفت و به 63/180 دلار در هر تن رسید.
بنا به گزارش منابع ما، قیمتهای بازارهای داخلی تولوئن زایلین مخلوط ایزومر از هفتهی گذشته افزایش چشمگیری داشته است چراکه خریداران برای تامین خوراکهای بخش اختلاط بنزین به بازار هجوم آوردهاند.
قیمت داخلی زایلین مخلوط ایزومر آخرین بار در بازار معادل 7،800 یوان در هر تن (معادل حدوداً 940 دلار در هر تن) گزارش شده است که نسبت به هفتهی گذشته 20 تا 25 دلار افزایش داشته است.
قیمتهای داخلی تولوئن نیز، از 7،160 یوان در روز پنجشنبه گذشته به 7،700 یوان در هر تن (معادل حدوداً 926 دلار در هر تن) در روز سهشنبهی این هفته افزایش یافته است که نشانگر 540 یوان (حدوداً 65 دلار) در هر تن افزایش است.
همچنین منابع بازار گزارش کردند واحدهای تولیدی چینی با مشکلاتی فنی روبهرو هستند که به تعمیرات نیاز دارد و در نتیجه اخیراً برخی تولیدات منتفی شده و این خود محدودیت فعلی در عرضه را تشدید کرده است.
بر اساس اطلاعات ما، روز 19 اکتبر، انبارهای تولوئن شرق چین نسبت به هفته گذشته 25/6 درصد کاهش داشتند و به 22،500 تن رسیدند.
ضمناً در بازار بَنزَن - صنایع پاییندستی تولوئن - میزان عرضه همچنان مکفی است چراکه به علت ضعیف بودن تقاضا، انبارها به ذخیرهسازی میپردازند و این مسئله در کاهش قیمتهای بَنزَن نقشی موثر دارد.
در نتیجه، در روز 18 اکتبر، اختلاف بین تولوئن و بَنزَن به منفی 83/0 دلار در هر تن رسید؛ بنا بر اطلاعات ما، آخرین باری که اختلاف منفی بین این دو بازار مشاهده شده بوده است مربوط به 12 اکتبر سال 2016 میشود که میزان آن 1 دلار در هر تن بوده است.
اختلاف بین بَنزَن و تولوئن در روز 23 اکتبر معادل 33/38 دلار در هر تن براورد شده، چراکه قیمت بَنزَن روز 23 اکتبر با 28 دلار کاهش نسبت به 12 اکتبر به 67/801 دلار ( FOB کره) رسید.

Source text - English However, some philosophers hold that, even if determinism is an open question, we do not have the kind of free will required for moral responsibility. Thus, while the preceding discussion of determinism may have been enough to convince those philosophers who adhere to incompatibilism that the characters in Alias have free will, convincing others will require a further step. This further step requires establishing the claim that the characters in Alias have the kind of free will that is required for moral responsibility. It will help to first clarify exactly what kind of free will is required for moral responsibility.
A standard philosophical definition of the kind of free will required for moral responsibility is that a person has free will in making some decision (say, for example, choosing to watch an episode of Alias rather than Cloverfield) if she or he could have chosen otherwise. However, such a definition seems unusable for our purposes. It is difficult in the real world to determine whether people could have chosen otherwise (which is why philosophers are still puzzling over the free will question, despite over two thousand years of work on it); it is even more difficult to determine whether the characters in the fictional world of Alias could have chosen otherwise, for we do not have the access to their world that would be required for such determinations.
Many of the arguments in favor of free will are arguments that make use of an individual’s personal experience. On these arguments, part of the reason one has for believing that one has free will is that one experiences life as if one has free will. Because neither I nor the reader is part of the Alias universe, and because none of the characters who inhabit that world have said that they experience life as if they have free will, it is not possible to use personal experience to determine whether or not the characters are free.
