Bio
I was born in St Petersburg, Russia, and after graduating from the Herzen University I spent five years working on literary translation. As a result I had a couple of books and several art catalogues translated. Being an on-site interpreter for the shooting of 'Orlando' made me passionate about cinematograph, English culture and the way individuals communicate with each other. In 2000 I moved to UK to do my MA in Interpreting and Translation at the University of Bath. I have worked as a freelance transcreator, subeditor and translator since 1992. This has provided me with a wide variety of experience, both professional and cultural. My clients include Wordbank Ltd, Text Appeal, Visiontext (translation of subtitles for DVD releases - more that 120 films), Berlin Film Festival; SDI Media Group, European Captioning Institute, Technicolor, Sue Bond Public Relations agency, Chartered Institute of Linguistsʼ Language Services; Russian sub-editor for Story Worldwide, Lexus Magazine; Russian sub-editor for Redwood, LIV Magazine. I enjoy writing texts and consider myself almost bilingual. Reconstructing texts and adapting them to one’s own culture involves knowledge and imagination and I believe I can deliver both.
2000 - 2001 – MA in Interpreting and Translating (University of Bath, UK), 1988 - 1996 – Russian State Pedagogical University of St Petersburg (Foreign Languages Dept. – English and Italian Languages); graduation thesis on communicative and pragmatic problems of translation
