Bio
Rodrigo Gomez.
Bio.
After more than 40
years of successful professional career, I keep facing an exciting challenge: to
continue seeking the excellence as a FreeLancer Translator, focused on
achieving the recognition of my clients and professional colleagues.
Born in Cuba, my native language is Spanish. I learned
English at a very early age in an American school in Havana (kindergarten-5th
grade) where all subjects were imparted in English, except 3 specific ones,
imparted in Spanish. Outside of class, we usually spoke English with other
students. I learned Polish during my 7 year stay in Poland for university
studies, until I graduated as a MSc. Naval Architect. All classes, projects and
exams were in Polish language, as well as daily communication. On several occasions,
at the request of my Embassy, I served as a simultaneous translator in both
directions.
During the previous stage, as detailed in my CV, I
acquired theoretical-practical experience in fields such as:
Engineering. Leading as General Designer 4 technological development
projects of shipyards, more than 15 projects of vessels, including fishing
units, yachts and boats, preparing and controlling “critical routes” to the
effects. I supervised abroad the construction of large steel fishing vessels: 3
½ years in Vigo, Spain, and later 1 ½ years in Normandy, France. Since 1990 I
dedicated myself to the field of paints, at the same time taking care of “technical
sales” of specialized products, as well as supervising, on behalf of the paint
manufacturer on huge vessels, mainly dry-docked, the whole cycle, from surface
preparation, to the application of paints, and warranty inspections.
Technical-economic
activity. Basically in the
field of investments, both for the import of technological equipment for
seafood processing lines, as well as for the construction of fishing vessels.
.- During 9 months I, full time led a group of 5 high
level specialists, in different disciplines, preparing an "Investment
Analysis" for the approval of the construction of 5 large tuna vessels
capable of freezing catches at -60 degrees C. The analysis, which concluded that
"the investment would be recovered in 3.8 years" was approved by the
highest level of economic authorities of the country. This was my major
technical-economic experience.
Commercial
Activity, Marketing and Purchase & Selling. Elaborating marketing campaigns for the introduction
of products, putting them into practice in front of clients, as well as
analyzing contracts, payment instruments, their execution and control. I
collaborated (in Polish) with several Polish production companies in the
introduction of their products in the Cuban market, and also translating their
catalogs into Spanish.
Participating in 7 international annual trade
fairs, I personally prepared the respective product dossiers to compete for the
“Quality Award”, with which we were awarded in 6 consecutive occasions.
I love reading, and enjoy translation of
interesting, even if new for me topics.
