As a journalist I bring a writer's eye to translations, having worked for 30 years on UK publications and websites including ten years as an Italian correspondent for the international classical music magazine Gramophone.
Specialising in music of all types, architecture, literature and the arts, I will also consider any translation from Italian to English. Areas of interest and experience include travel and tourism, wildlife and nature, engineering, transport, motor sport, industrial archaeology, etc.
Published work includes the book Chasing the Dragon by Alessandro Scotti, a limited edition numbered photographic project with a preface by the author of Gomorrah, Roberto Saviano (Milan, ISBN Edizioni, 2013). I also provided subtitles for a film of Rossini's opera Sigismondo produced by Unitel Classica and the Rossini Opera Festival, as well as subtitling documentaries about the making of opera productions. For Decca records I wrote sleeve notes for their recording of Bellini's Norma with Cecilia Bartoli, interviewing the editors of a new critical edition of the score in Italian. Other music translations include an interview with pianist Andrea Bacchetti for his DVD recording of J S Bach's Goldberg Variations. The article is by Sandro Cappelletto, music critic of the Italian daily La Stampa: www.andreabacchetti.net/pages/Goldberg_dvd_eng.htm. I have done many translations for international architect Antonino Cardillo as well as editing his articles for publication: www.antoninocardillo.com.
I have worked for many other clients including Cameo foods, Riva yachts, Telecom Italia Mobile, Voltaren pharmaceuticals and the Genoa Aquarium.
My journalism experience is in news and features, interviews and reviews. Over the course of my career I have had the privilege of meeting and interviewing many famous classical musicians, including Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Nigel Kennedy, Daniel Barenboim, Itzhak Perlman, Luciano Pavarotti, Sir Georg Solti, Angela Gheorghiu, Riccardo Chailly, Yo-Yo Ma, Lady Walton, Franco Zeffirelli, Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Andrew Davis, Kyung-Wha Chung, Michael Tilson Thomas, Sir Roger Norrington, Günter Wand, Richard Hickox, Michael Nyman, Christoph Eschenbach, Sir John Tavener, Sir Christopher Hogwood, Roberto Alagna, Arcadi Volodos, Claudio Cavina and La Venexiana, Gustavo Dudamel, Gautier Capuçon, Nino Machaidze, Xian Zhang, Eliahu Inbal, Ron Goodwin, Andreas Scholl, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Tadaaki Otaka, Gordon Fergus-Thompson, Artur Pizarro, Daniele Gatti, Joanna MacGregor, Kent Nagano, Nicholas McGegan, Anonymous 4, Jocelyn Pook and Elektra Strings, Lesley Garrett, Maria Kliegel, Karl Jenkins, Patricia Rozario, Spira Mirabilis.
