Bio
My name is Elzbieta Pulawska. Altough throughout my career I have covered subjects from many a field as translator or interepreter, as for now I tend to narrow down and specialize in insurance, banking, law, economics, which of course does not exclude my being interested in assignments from other more specific or more general areas. For the past 10 years or so I have also been heavily involved in translating EU acquis communautaire into Polish as translator and reviser.

I studied WSJO (Higher School of Foreign Languages) at Warsaw University and English Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (early 1970s). Also attended some upgrading courses, including a course in legal terminology at Cambridge, UK.

Since 1968 until 1988 I worked for the Polish Interpress Agency as translator, junior editor and senior editor/reviser at the Translations Department and briefly in the Foreign Relations Department. I was also on the list of Polish official interpreters and translators and for many years did assignments for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including official state visits.

In the meantime I also did a lot of work for my private customers and was among a handful of simultaneous interpreters in the country at that time, and in 1988 (still before the transformation) I went totally freelance. For a short time I run a small business called Transletter, but then decided it would be much more efficient and better in terms of quality and efficiency if I did all the work myself.

My present customers include insurance companies, banks, and government agencies. In the past, I did a lot of assignments for the World Bank before and after its Resident Mission was set up in Warsaw, both as translator and interpreter. The same goes for the IMF. Other customers I had a longer working relationship with included National Bank of Poland, Association of Polish Banks, Coopers and Lybrand, Arthur Andersen, PriceWaterhouse, KPMG, Bank PeKaO SA, Bank Handlowy w Warszawie, Export Credit Insurance Corporation, Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Polish Parliament, Office for the Integration with the European Union, Foundation for the Development of the Polish Banking System, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Transport, Planning Commission, etc., as well as innumerable smaller private corporations and companies.

I have also translated several publications into English and into Polish, i.a.
