Source text - English For many people, just as there is no distinction between religion and life, so there is no distinction between religion and science. Taoism, for example, is dedicated to discovering “the way of the universe” and working with it, rather than against it. Islam lays great stress on the value of knowledge and discovery about the natural world, but always in the context of submission to God and his laws.
Scientific discoveries and theories can cause great heart-searching and heated debate in religions, as is made evident by the reactions of the adherents to certain forms of Judaism, Christianity and Islam to modern theories about the beginnings of the universe. Some reject the scientific theories altogether, because they do not follow the story of God’s creation of the world as described in the scriptures, while others try to understand each in the light of the other.
Islam has always encouraged scientific exploration, and many scientific discoveries owe their origin to Islam. Christianity has been credited with laying the foundations of modern empirical research by creating a world view in which everything was seen to be made by God, and thus open to investigation as a way of knowing God better.
Modern science has sometimes seemed to answer certain questions about the nature of life traditionally answered by religion, and there are many who believe that religions will decline as scientific knowledge continue to grow. But in recent years there has been a resurgence of interest both in religion and in mediums and divination. For many people, the answers given by science fail to address deeper questions of meaning.
Translation - Chinese
