English to Spanish: PC for Dummies - Chapter 12
Source text - English Behold the Printer
The printer's job is to print stuff, to get a hard copy of information stored in the computer. Yeah, the printer may also scan, copy, and Swiffer sweep the floor. But, at the heart of the thing is a gizmo that puts ink to paper and gives you something you can show the world.
Types of computer printer
Computer printers are categorized by how the ink gets splattered on the paper. Other subcategories are based on the printer’s features. Here’s the short list:
* Inkjet
* Photo
* All-in-one
* Laser
* Impact
The inkjet, photo, and all-in-one printers all use the same basic method for putting ink on paper: Tiny balls of ink are lobbed directly on the paper. Because the teensy-tiny ink balls stick to the paper, this type of printer needs no ribbon or toner cartridge; the ink is jetted out directly, which is how the printer gets its name.
Laser printers are found primarily in the office environment, where they can handle the high workload. The printer uses a laser beam to create the image, similar to a photocopier, which uses an image reflection. The result is crisp and fast output, but not as inexpensive as the inkjet type of printer.
Impact printers are few and far between these days, although once they were the dominant type of computer printer. These printers are slower and noisier than the other types of printers. They use a ribbon and some device that physically bangs the ribbon on the paper. Because of that, impact printers are primarily used now in printing invoices or multicopy forms. They’re not practical for home use.
* Inkjet printers are by no means messy. The ink is dry on the paper by the time the paper comes flopping out of the printer.
* A laser printer that can print in color is known as a color laser printer. The regular (noncolor) laser printer uses only one color of ink @@md usually, black.
* Low-end inkjet printers cost less because they’re dumb; they contain no internal electronics to help create the image. Instead, the computer is required to do the thinking, which slows things down a tad. When you pay more for an inkjet printer, the smarts are usually included with the printer.
* High-priced printers offer a higher-quality output, faster speed, more printing options, the ability to print on larger sheets of paper, and other amazing options.
A look around your printer
Take a moment to examine your printer and look for some handy items, as labeled in Figure 12-1:
* Inyección de tinta
* Foto
* Multifunción
* Láser
* Impacto

Bilingual French and Spanish from the day I started to talk, I have lived and pursued all my education in a bilingual system in France, Italy and Argentina, and went back to live to all of them as an adult, both for further education and work.
I started translating professionally in French and Spanish at the age of 16 and immediately felt the need to learn another language. I moved to England at the age of 19, where in 5 years I was able to learn and master English as well as pursue my studies with an extra curricular course on Media Studies at Birckbeck College, University of London. I then opted to conceal my 3 main languages with an BA on Foreign Applied Languages to International Trade and Business at the Nouvelle Sorbonne University in Paris, France.
A first real experience in a weekly newspaper in London, where I published my first articles in English, and then 2 years as a desk journalist for an international news agency in France, gave me the opportunity to build up and perfect my translating skills in a great variety of fields and at a very demanding level. A level that I have also attained in Italian after spending a total of 8 years in Italy (3 years in my childhood and 5 up to a few years ago).
I also spent almost 2 years in China, with the scope of learning a new non-alphabetical language that would open new horizons in my passion for languages and linguistics. I know it will still take time to be completely fluent in Chinese Mandarin, but I am already quite satisfied with being able hold a friendly conversations and to watch Chinese movies and understand over 50% of what is being said.
Dealing with languages and cross-cultural communication is part of my everyday and professional life, and I make a point of honor in always working in multilingual environments in order to keep the challenge of improving everyday.
I have now over 30 years of real life experience offering all kinds of multilingual services, from translation, editing, proofreading and interpreting to transcription, subtitling and dubbing as well as intercultural communication and international cinema and TV production services.
