My career as a legal and technical translator reflects my multi-lingual background and extensive formal training.
As a young student at Catholic University (Sao Paulo), my chief interests were language, literature, and English-Portuguese translation. Next, I felt it would be wise to give myself a second professional option in addition to teaching. At this point, I considered obtaining a law degree. I realized that I had an aptitude for legal training. I entered UNIFIEO in the west of Sao Paulo for general legal training, and ultimately earned a Baccalaureate degree in Law (LLB, 1987).
Then I realized that there was a brisk demand for legal translation and for software translation and localization on the international market. Because there were very few well-qualified legal translation companies in my home area, I decided to go back to school once again and attend a 2-year course on the techniques of translation and interpretation at the highly respected Association Alumni, School of Translators, where I eventually received my certification.
My first important career move was to obtain an excellent position as a software translator with Oracle (for 4 years). I continued gaining experience in technical translation since then.
As a freelance translator, my experience includes translation of technical and legal documents. Fields of specialization include: banking, financials, insurance, business, engineering (industrial, mechanical, chemical), telecommunications, computing, programming, telecommunications, electronics, management, pharmaceuticals, law, marketing. I have enjoyed providing freelance services for a large number of commercial clients in Brazil and in the United States. Other projects have included annual reports, user guides, tax returns, financial statements, license agreements, contracts, newsletters, supply chain, press releases, agreements, proposals and technical specifications.
To enhance the services offered by me, I visited the United States in the summer of 2005. During this visit, I added to my legal education by participating in a Master’s-level Program in comparative law at Samford University (Birmingham, AL). On returning home, I continued to develop my translation company particularly in the area of legal-translation services. As of today, my company, which has been running strong, continues to grow rapidly in terms of income and of subcontractors.
