• I have been actively bilingual from birth due to my parents being British and Arabic citizens ; this helps me almost daily when translating and interpreting, by understanding the Arabic and English languages, cultures, and daily sayings, more so than if I had learnt them as an adult. • Having a wide spectrum of working knowledge and living both in the UK and the Middle East, helps me when translating topics I have come accustomed to, in the jobs I was involved in.
• My careful nature of checking and double-checking helps me to produce translations with less than average mistakes. As for keeping in touch with the Arabic language, I travel there almost every year and I have a free to air satellite and watch most Arab TV every day. I also subscribe to an Arabic 150 page magazine every two weeks.
• I am now teaching Scientific and Technical Translation for the Postgraduate Diploma/ MA in Translation at a leading UK university. |
